چکیده

We analyze a variational problem for the recovery of vector valued functions and we compute its numerical solution. The data of the problem are a small set of complete samples of the vector valued function and a significant incomplete information where the former are missing. The incomplete information is assumed as the result of a distortion, with values in a lower dimensional manifold. For the recovery of the function we minimize a functional which is formed by the discrepancy with respect to the data and total variation regularization constraints. We show existence of minimizers in the space of vector valued BV functions. For the computation of minimizers we provide a stable and efficient method. First we approximate the functional by coercive functionals on W 1,2 in terms of Γ-convergence. Then we realize approximations of minimizers of the latter functionals by an iterative procedure to solve the PDE system of the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations. The numerical implementation comes naturally by finite element discretization. We apply the algorithm to the restoration of color images from a limited color information and gray levels where the colors are missing. The numerical experiments show that this scheme is very fast and robust. The reconstruction capabilities of the model are shown, also from very limited (randomly distributed) color data. Several examples are included from the real restoration problem of the A. Mantegna’s art frescoes in Italy. AMS subject classification: 65M60, 94A08, 49M30, 49J45

Adaptive data-driven regularization for variational image restoration in the BV space

We present a novel variational regularization in the space of functions of Bounded Variation (BV) for adaptive data-driven image restoration. The discontinuities are important features in image processing. The BV space is well adapted for the measure of gradient and discontinuities. More over, the degradation of images includes not only random noises but also multiplicative, spatial degradation...

Color TV: total variation methods for restoration of vector-valued images

We propose a new definition of the total variation (TV) norm for vector-valued functions that can be applied to restore color and other vector-valued images. The new TV norm has the desirable properties of 1) not penalizing discontinuities (edges) in the image, 2) being rotationally invariant in the image space, and 3) reducing to the usual TV norm in the scalar case. Some numerical experiments...

Vector Optimization Problems and Generalized Vector Variational-Like Inequalities

In this paper, some properties of  pseudoinvex functions, defined by means of  limiting subdifferential, are discussed. Furthermore, the Minty vector variational-like inequality,  the Stampacchia vector variational-like inequality, and the  weak formulations of these two inequalities  defined by means of limiting subdifferential are studied. Moreover, some relationships  between the vector vari...

A Fast Algorithm for Vectorial Tv-based Image Restoration

In this paper, we firstly extend a simple algorithm proposed by Jia et al. [16] to color/vectorial images, and then apply it to some variational models for image restoration including color image denoising with the RGB and chromaticity-brightness(CB) color representation, chromaticity-brightness(CB) based colorization and inpainting etc. The variational models are all total variation(TV)-based ...
